Christians You Need to Give Better

By Eric Boyum, AAMS®, CKA®

Giving was never intended to be a burden, but a blessing. I have struggled with giving through out my life. There is a chapter in my life where money was my god and I worshiped at its alter in the empty pursuit of more. There have been times when I would give with the expectation to get something in return from God because he is faithful. When you give with a wrong heart you will get wrong results.

If God were to write me a letter on giving it would go like this:

My Dear Child,

I see your heart, your struggles, your hopes, and your fears. I know you desire to follow Me, but sometimes you wonder what it means to truly trust Me, especially when it comes to giving. So, let Me speak directly to your heart.

Child, I have spoken plainly in My Word: “You should tithe, yes” (Matthew 23:23, NLT). This is not a command meant to burden you but an invitation to trust Me with what I have already given you. Everything you have—your time, talents, and treasure—comes from My hand.

I do not ask for your gifts because I need them. I am the Creator of all things! But your giving is a way for you to draw closer to Me, to loosen the grip of fear and scarcity, and to step into the joy of trusting Me completely.

Listen, My beloved: I have blessed you so that you may be a blessing to others. As I said long ago through My servant David:
“Who am I, and who are My people, that we could give anything to You? Everything we have has come from You, and we give You only what You first gave us” (1 Chronicles 29:14, NLT).

When you give back to Me, you’re not losing; you’re investing in a greater purpose—one that changes lives and brings My kingdom closer to earth.

I know your concerns. You say, “I don’t have enough. How can I give when I’m barely making it?” I hear you. I understand. But My child, let Me teach you a greater truth: You can’t afford not to give.

Trust Me with your first fruits, even when it feels risky. Did I not promise in Malachi 3:10:
“Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse… Test Me in this, and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it.”

Do you hear My invitation? Test Me. Try Me. See what I can do.

Let Me remind you of the time I provided for you when you thought all hope was lost.

Do you recall that moment years ago when you had only $200 left? You were anxious and afraid, unsure of how to meet your needs. Yet, through the wisdom of a mentor, I urged you to give—yes, to give what little you had. And though it seemed impossible, you obeyed.

I saw your heart as you rode your bicycle to give that gift, praying and trusting Me with each turn of the pedals. What you didn’t know was that three years earlier, I had already set into motion a plan to bless you.

When the letter from the IRS arrived, revealing an unexpected refund of $2,400, you saw My faithfulness. My provision was already on its way, long before you ever knew you needed it. That’s how much I care for you.

Trust Me Completely

I am Jehovah Jireh—Your Provider. I am the One who knows your needs before you even ask. I am the One who holds tomorrow in My hands.

My child, life will never make sense when you hold tightly to what I have given you. But when you release it—when you give generously, joyfully, and trustingly—you will find freedom, peace, and joy beyond measure.

Remember what I said in Matthew 25:21:
“Well done, My good and faithful servant. You have been faithful in handling this small amount, so now I will give you many more responsibilities. Enter into the joy of your Lord.”

My Challenge to You

Take a leap of faith, My beloved. For six months, give Me 10% of what I have given you. Test Me in this. Watch how I provide for you—not always in the way you expect, but always in ways that show My love and care.

If you do this and your life doesn’t overflow with blessings—spiritual, emotional, and even financial—then come back to Me and talk. I am your Father, and I am patient. I will teach you, guide you, and walk with you.

You Are Loved

Never forget, My child: I don’t love you because of what you give. I love you because you are Mine. But as you give, you will discover a deeper joy and a richer relationship with Me.

Trust Me. I will never fail you.

With all My love,
Your Heavenly Father
