Our Part: Faithfulness Over Flashy

Jul 23, 2025

Let’s face it “faithfulness” isn’t exactly trending right now.

Our culture praises the bold and brash. It rewards hustle, virality, and results you can brag about. Everywhere you turn, it seems someone is showing off their highlight reel:
“I doubled my income this year!”
“Just bought the dream vacation home!”
“My crypto portfolio just went to the moon!”

Meanwhile, the faithful—those quietly giving, stewarding, saving, and living within their means—often feel invisible.

But here’s the good news:
God sees what the world overlooks.
And He doesn’t reward flashy. He rewards faithful.

The Biblical Blueprint

In Luke 16:10, Jesus gives us a principle that turns the world’s values upside down:

“Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much…”

In other words:
Before God promotes you, He watches how you handle what you’ve already got.

Not just with money—but with time, opportunities, influence, and responsibility.

God’s part is to bless, provide, and multiply.
Your part is to be faithful—especially with the small things.

The Power of a Sack Lunch

One of my favorite pictures of this is in John 6, when Jesus feeds the 5,000.
The disciples are overwhelmed. The crowd is hungry. And a boy shows up with a sack lunch.

Five loaves. Two fish. That’s it.

Not a chef. Not a planner. Not a miracle worker.
Just a kid willing to offer what he had.

And Jesus took that small act of obedience… and fed thousands.

Let that sink in:

God doesn’t need more from you. He wants more of you.

A Story That Stuck With Me

Here’s a story about Linda. She never made more than $40,000 a year.
She lived in a modest home. Drove the same car for 20 years. Never splurged. Always gave.

She didn’t think she had much, but she wanted to found faithful.

Over time, she accumulated a small but powerful legacy—not just financially, but spiritually.
When she passed, her church and community were stunned by the quiet generosity she had modeled for decades.

Linda never went viral. But in heaven, she’s rewarded.

Faithfulness in Everyday Finance

Here’s what faithfulness might look like in your life:

  • Reviewing your budget monthly, even when it feels tedious.
  • Giving consistently, even when you feel like skipping it “just this once.”
  • Spending intentionally, not impulsively.
  • Investing biblically, even when it means passing on a trendy but unethical stock.
  • Saying “no” to comparison and “yes” to contentment.

You don’t need to perform.
You need to persevere.

Key Takeaway:

Faithfulness doesn’t always feel exciting, but it always leads to fruitfulness.
In a world chasing the next big thing, be the one building something that lasts.

Next Steps: Cultivate Quiet Consistency

This week, challenge yourself to:

Choose one “unseen” act of obedience in your finances.
It might be saying no to a purchase, setting up an automated tithe, or reviewing your expenses.

Journal this prompt:
“What would it look like for me to be radically faithful with what I already have?”

Memorize Luke 16:10 or put it on your fridge:
“Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much.”

Celebrate consistency, not outcomes.
Did you stick to your plan this week? That’s a win. Did you honor God with your money—even if no one saw it? That’s success.

A Steward’s Prayer

“Father, in a world chasing applause, I want to chase You.
I don’t need flash—I need faith.
Help me be faithful with what You’ve entrusted to me.
Teach me to value consistency over hype, obedience over outcomes, and Your approval over the crowd’s.
May my life, and my finances, bring You glory—even in the quiet places. Amen.”

Final Word: Obscurity Doesn’t Equal Irrelevance

Just because the world isn’t clapping doesn’t mean heaven isn’t watching.

God sees you.
Every quiet decision. Every faithful step. Every sacrificial choice.

He’s not asking you to be the next financial guru.
He’s inviting you to be a faithful steward.

And when you are, you’ll discover something better than success: significance.

Wherever you are on your financial journey, remember—your money is a tool, not a trophy.
It’s meant to reflect your values, fuel your purpose, and honor God in the process.

You don’t have to figure it out alone. I’m here to walk with you—one wise, faith-filled decision at a time.
